well...a month and a half behind schedule...but better late than never, right?

during ian's eighth month, he made some huge strides developmentally. it's really exciting to see him growing up and changing, but scary at the same time...where is my baby going??
with regards to solids, ian has been continuing to try new fruits and vegetables, still mostly in puree form. his favorites at eight months are definitely carrots and mangoes. he is eating two "meals" a day, one around breakfast time and one at dinner. we are still breastfeeding seven or so times a day and always before a meal to make sure he is getting the nutrients he needs to grow. it's interesting to watch him decide when he is full or if he wants more. somedays he will down two ounces in 30 seconds flat and other days he'll be done after three spoonfuls. funny baby :) overall i'm pleased with how the solids are going, but i'm nervous about where to head after purees. over memorial day weekend, he did have cheerios for the first time and loved them. with all the teeth he now has (see below) the chewing thing seems to be pretty natural for him! excited to see him keep trying new flavors and textures. we are also fortunate that he hasn't had a single negative food reaction yet (knock on wood!!).
this past month has also been a big one on the teething front. last month saw his first top tooth that came in on the flight home from england. i figured the others wouldn't be far behind and i was right. in six days (may 11-17) he got the other three top teeth (two front and left incisor). i couldn't believe it when he would wake up with yet another new one! interestingly enough, he wasn't too fussy during this crazy teething week, although he was up more during the night. he now has six teeth total and there aren't anymore on the horizon yet.
the biggest development this past month was pulling up to standing! i actually wasn't home to witness it the first time as i was out playing a gig. hubby was home with him and managed to catch the whole thing on video though, so i did get to see it later :) he first pulled up on the baby gate between the living room and the kitchen, but now anything is game. the day after he started pulling up, he also found the stairs. i couldn't believe it. haha...i thought we would at least have a little time in between each step (no pun intended!). fortunately he isn't actually climbing too far, but he will definitely attempt the first couple, if you let him. the other crazy thing to watch is when he finally stands up, he'll go all the way up on his toes. it looks so painful to me, but he stands there just fine!
scoping out the situation
up to knees
check out those toes!!
the cheeky smile :)
this month we also did some more traveling. ian and i took a day trip up to hanover, nh and white river junction, vt, one of my old stomping grounds to visit some friends from my high school years there. ian woke up at 5am to nurse and instead of putting him back in the crib, i just put him in his car seat and headed out. he slept until 6:30am and then played with his toys until we arrived. perfect timing :) we visited my former high school violin teacher, my music educator mentor and a dear high school friend and her family. it was a great day. we left around naptime and ian slept just over halfway home and then babbled the rest of the way. he's the perfect little travel buddy.
ian has also discovered silly faces. he knows they get a good reaction from mummy and daddy, so they are becoming more and more frequent. haha! here's one last silly one before we close the book on eight months....
love you, baby boy.
